Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King – Matthew 21:1-5

21 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”

This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:

“Say to Daughter Zion,     ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey,     and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

Philippians 2:5-11
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature[a] God,     did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing     by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,     being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,     he humbled himself     by becoming obedient to death—         even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place     and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,     in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,     to the glory of God the Father.

Zachariah 9:9-16

The Coming of Zion’s King

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!     Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you,     righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey,     on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will take away the chariots from Ephraim     and the warhorses from Jerusalem,     and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations.     His rule will extend from sea to sea     and from the River[a] to the ends of the earth. 11 As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you,     I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit. 12 Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope;     even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you. 13 I will bend Judah as I bend my bow     and fill it with Ephraim. I will rouse your sons, Zion,     against your sons, Greece,     and make you like a warrior’s sword.
